Electrical power was restored to the Vancouver Island village of Ditidaht late Sunday afternoon, after a two-day outage. B.C. Hydro had cut the power for the area south of Nitinat Road about 5 p.m. Friday, following the theft of copper ground wire conductors from about 300 utility poles, which caused dangerous conditions.

“We added grounding to it and made other necessary repairs,” Hydro spokesman Ted Olynyk said.

A remote 62-kilometre stretch between China Creek and Ditidaht, near Port Alberni, was affected.

The total value of the theft is unknown.
