The series also managed to cast emerging talent at the time while securing high profile actors for bit parts and cameos. The &#8220;Scream&#8221; film franchise revitalized the horror movie genre in the late 90s. <b>Neve Campbell</b> has played the role of Sidney Prescott in all four films in the &#8220;Scream&#8221; franchise. When the first film was released, Campbell was starring on Fox&#8217;s hit series &#8220;Party of Five.&#8221; Reese Witherspoon reportedly turned down the role. Melissa Joan Hart also tried out for the role of Sidney.
<b>Drew Barrymore</b> was originally cast as Sidney Prescott, however she insisted that if she played Casey, then it would make the audience think anything could happen. Barrymore&#8217;s iconic murder scene occurred during the first 12 minutes of the film and set a precedent where a boyfriend and girlfriend are murdered in the opening of each film (Steven/Casey, Maureen/Phil and Cotton/Christine).
<b>Courteney Cox</b> reprises her role as Gale Weathers in the fourth installment. Cox starred on the hit sitcom &#8220;Friends&#8221; when the first three &#8220;Scream&#8221; films came out. She now stars on another television hit, &#8220;Cougar Town.&#8221; Jeaneane Garofalo reportedly turned down the role of Gale.
Although <b>Courteney Cox</b> and <b>David Arquette</b> are currently estranged, Gale and Dewey appear to be still together in &#8220;Scream 4.&#8221;
<b>David Arquette</b>&#8217;s Deputy Dewey was originally supposed to die during the first installment. Wes Craven decided to film a scene at the end where Dewey was alive and was being taken to the hospital just in case.
<b>Skeet Ulrich</b>&#8217;s Billy Loomis was Sidney&#8217;s boyfriend in the first film and was later revealed to be one of the original killers. Ulrich also holds the distinction of having played the first main character to be killed off the &#8220;Law & Order&#8221; franchise. His character, Detective Rex Winters, was killed off of &#8220;Law & Order: Los Angeles&#8221; this past week.
<b>Rose McGowan</b> played Sidney&#8217;s best friend and Dewey&#8217;s sister in the first installment. After Tatum&#8217;s death, we never looked at the pet door in the garage the same way again. Melinda Clarke (&#8220;The O.C.&#8221;) reportedly turned down this role.
<b>Matthew Lillard</b>&#8217;s Stu was the second killer in the first film and made a cameo in &#8220;Scream 2&#8221; as a party guest. Lillard went on to star in the &#8220;Scooby Doo&#8221; franchise as Shaggy. Lillard&#8217;s &#8220;Scooby Doo&#8221; and &#8220;She&#8217;s All That&#8221; co-star, Freddie Prinze Jr., originally auditioned for the role of Stu.
<b>Jamie Kennedy</b>&#8217;s Randy was a film geek in the first two films and explained what is required in order to survive a horror film. Randy was killed off in &#8220;Scream 2&#8221; but appeared in a taped message in the third film; could he appear again in &#8220;Scream 4&#8221;?
<b>Henry Winkler</b> appeared as Principal Himbry in the first film. It was supposed to be a small cameo until Bob Weinstein noticed that there wasn&#8217;t death seen in almost 30 pages of the script and told writer Kevin Williamson that &#8220;somebody must die.&#8221; The addition of the scene also gave an excuse to have all the party guests leave Stu&#8217;s house towards the end of the film before the big reveal.
Original Scream Queen <b>Linda Blair</b> has a cameo as a reporter who tells Sidney: &#8220;People want to know, they have a right to know&#8221; in the first film.
Although <b>Liev Schreiber</b>&#8217;s Cotton Weary only appeared briefly in the first film, he managed to save Sidney in the second film, before being the big &#8220;first death&#8221; in the third.
<b>Jada Pinkett</b> (Maureen Evans) and <b>Omar Epps</b> (Phil Stevens) were the first couple to be offed in &#8220;Scream 2.&#8221; We still get chills thinking about Maureen Evans&#8217; death at the movie theatre because we know how rowdy and wild movie theatres can get. It would be our worst fear to cry for help in a packed theatre.
<b>Heather Graham</b> and <b>Tori Spelling</b> played the &#8220;Stab&#8221; versions of Casey and Sidney in &#8220;Scream 2.&#8221; In the first film, Sidney mentioned that with her luck, Tori Spelling would end up playing her in a movie. In the 90s, Campbell and Spelling&#8217;s shows, &#8220;Beverly Hills 90210&#8221; and &#8220;Party of Five&#8221; were the staples of Fox&#8217;s Wednesday night schedule. Meanwhile, Luke Wilson played the &#8220;Stab&#8221; version of Billy Loomis. Luke Wilson dated Drew Barrymore in the late 90s. Wilson and Graham would later star together in &#8220;Committed&#8221; (2000).
<b>Sarah Michelle Gellar</b> filmed &#8220;Scream 2&#8221; immediately following the first season of &#8220;Buffy the Vampire Slayer.&#8221; Her character Cici talks to a friend who is voiced by Selma Blair before the killer calls her. Gellar and Blair would later star together in &#8220;Cruel Intentions&#8221; (1999). Following &#8220;Scream 2,&#8221; Sarah Michelle Gellar signed on for Kevin Williamson&#8217;s &#8220;I Know What You Did Last Summer.&#8221;
<b>Portia de Rossi</b> and <b>Rebecca Gayheart</b> appeared as sorority sisters Murphy and Lois in &#8220;Scream 2,&#8221; while <b>Elise Neal</b> played Sidney&#8217;s roommate, Hallie. Rebecca Gayheart originally auditioned for the role of Tatum in the first film.
<b>Jerry O&#8217;Connell</b> appeared in &#8220;Scream 2&#8221; as Sidney&#8217;s boyfriend Derek. Jerry O&#8217;Connell and Neve Campbell first appeared onscreen together when she guest starred on &#8220;My Secret Identity.&#8221;
<b>Joshua Jackson</b> appeared as a film student in &#8220;Scream 2.&#8221; The movie went into production around the same time as the first season of &#8220;Dawson&#8217;s Creek&#8221; did, so Kevin Williamson probably got Jackson to appear. Jackson&#8217;s scene also featured Sarah Michelle Gellar and the pair would later appear together in &#8220;Cruel Intentions.&#8221;
While he may be currently serving up his own brand of justice as Raylan Givens on &#8220;Justified,&#8221; <b>Timothy Olyphant</b> played film buff turned serial killer, Mickey, in &#8220;Scream 2.&#8221;
<b>Laurie Metcalf</b>&#8217;s wannabe reporter Debbie Salt turned out to be Billy Loomis&#8217; mother and the second killer in &#8220;Scream 2.&#8221; We had no idea Roseanne&#8217;s sister had it in her.
<b>Nancy O&#8217;Dell</b>, who appeared as a reporter in both &#8220;Scream 2&#8221; and &#8220;Scream 3&#8221; will take over for Mary Hart on &#8220;Entertainment Tonight&#8221; later this year.
Gossip Girl&#8217;s <b>Kelly Rutherford</b> played Cotton Weary&#8217;s girlfriend, Christine in &#8220;Scream 3.&#8221; Shannen Doherty, Charisma Carpenter and Kate Winslet were all contenders for this role.
Before dealing with all of Meredith&#8217;s issues on Grey&#8217;s Anatomy, <b>Patrick Dempsey</b> did his best to save Sidney in &#8220;Scream 3&#8221; as Detective Mark Kincaid. Dempsey was cast a day before filming began.
<b>Parker Posey</b> appeared as Jennifer Jolie, who was playing the role of Gale in the &#8220;Stab&#8221; franchise. Courteney Cox&#8217;s Gale made a reference to Jennifer dating Brad Pitt in the film.
<b>Jenny McCarthy</b> played &#8220;Stab 3&#8221; actress Sarah Darling in &#8220;Scream 3.&#8221;
Jay and Silent Bob (<b>Kevin Smith</b> and <b>Jason Mewes</b>) get a tour of the &#8220;Stab 3&#8221; lot in &#8220;Scream 3&#8221;
<b>Carrie Fisher</b> appears as Bianca Burnett in &#8220;Scream 3&#8221; and complains that she couldn&#8217;t get many film roles because of how much she looks like Carrie Fisher.
<b>Patrick Warburton</b> appeared as Hollywood body guard Steven Stone in &#8220;Scream 3,&#8221; while <b>Heather Matarazoo</b> was cast as Randy&#8217;s sister who shows Sidney, Dewey and Gale a tape of Randy (Jamie Kennedy) discussing the rules of a horror trilogy.
Also appearing in &#8220;Scream 3&#8221; as the stars of &#8220;Stab 3&#8221; were <b>Deon Richmond</b> (&#8220;Sister Sister,&#8221; &#8220;Van Wilder&#8221; and &#8220;Teachers&#8221;), <b>Matt Keeslar</b> (&#8220;Dune,&#8221; &#8220;Jekyll,&#8221; and &#8220;Dollhouse&#8221;) and <b>Emily Mortimer</b> (&#8220;The Pink Panther,&#8221; &#8220;Lars and the Real Girl&#8221; and &#8220;Shutter Island&#8221;). Keeslar&#8217;s Tom Prinze was the new fictional Dewey while Mortimer&#8217;s Angelina Tyler won a contest to play the new Sidney after David Schwimmer and Tori Spelling &#8220;quit.&#8221; Alicia Silverstone turned down the role of Angelina.
<b>Scott Foley</b>&#8217;s Roman was revealed to be Sidney&#8217;s half-brother and the killer in &#8220;Scream 3.&#8221; We were so used to seeing him as the simple/nice Noel on &#8220;Felicity&#8221; at the time and didn&#8217;t see this coming&#8230;but then we thought about it some more and pictured Noel going on a rampage and killing Felicity and Ben. It didn&#8217;t seem like such a bad idea &#8211; maybe then we would have tuned in to the show post-haircut.
<b>Emma Roberts</b> stars as Jill Roberts in &#8220;Scream 4.&#8221;
<b>Anna Paquin</b> and <b>Kristen Bell</b> star as Rachel and Chloe in &#8220;Scream 4.&#8221;
<b>Erik Knudsen</b>, <b>Rory Culkin</b>, <b>Marielle Jaffe</b> and <b>Hayden Panettiere</b> also star in &#8220;Scream 4.&#8221;
Community&#8217;s <b>Alison Brie</b> appears as Rebecca Walters in &#8220;Scream 4.&#8221;
Pretty Little Liars&#8217; <b>Lucy Hale</b> appears as Sherrie in &#8220;Scream 4.&#8221;
Joining Dewey on the police force are <b>Marley Shelton</b> as Deputy Judy Hicks, <b>Adam Brody</b> as Detective Hoss and <b>Anthony Anderson</b> as Deputy Perkins.
90210&#8217;s <b>Shenae Grimes</b>, Friday Night Lights&#8217; <b>Aimee Teegarden</b> and Make It or Break It&#8217;s <b>Nico Tororella</b> also star in &#8220;Scream 4.&#8221;
<b>Roger L. Jackson</b> has done the voice of the killer for the entire &#8220;Scream&#8221; franchise. While he mainly voices for video games, you might also recognize him as Mojo Jojo on &#8220;The Powerpuff Girls.&#8221;
&#8220;Scream&#8221; franchise director <b>Wes Craven</b> appeared as a janitor in the first film, a doctor in the second and then as the man with the video camera during the studio tour in the third. Meanwhile, writer <b>Kevin Williamson</b> appeared as Cotton Weary&#8217;s interviewer in the second film.
