What: Suzanne Snizek (flute) with Yoomi Kim (piano)

Where: Phillip T. Young Recital Hall, University of Victoria

When: Sunday, 2:30 p.m.

Tickets: $25 (seniors and students, $20; UVic alumni, $10) at 250-721-8480

or tickets.uvic.ca

Why: This entry in the ongoing — and always interesting — UVic Faculty Concert Series features flutist Suzanne Snizek, an assistant professor with the university’s school of music and a specialist on suppressed music from the Second World War. Snizek (who will be joined by pianist Yoomi Kim for this concert) has led a global effort to bring music from the Holocaust era to wider renown, and will perform a selection of works by Dick Kattenburg, Mieczyslaw Weinberg and Boris Blacher.

MUSIC

What: Nathanael Schaeffer

Where: Church Of Truth, 111 Superior St.

When: Saturday, 7:30 p.m. (doors at 7)

Admission: By donation

Why: There’s a lot to like about this night of soothing piano music, in part because of the location. The natural acoustics in the Church of Truth on Superior Street are among the best in the city, which will nicely accent the work of Canadian composer Nathanael Schaeffer. He’s often associated with the term “nomadic ivories,” which may or may not have to do with his tour itinerary. By all reports, be prepared for a journey of the mind on this night.
