Something to chew on at ocean exhibit

Find out who eats whom in the Salish Sea at Bite Me, the newest exhibit at the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre, which runs until June 17.

"Every animal eats," says Tina Kelly, the centre's visitor experience director. "It's the weird and wacky ways that animals eat that differ. Some with their feet, some with a cheese grater-like tongue and some with stinging cells."

One of the interactive displays reveals how the size and shape of a bird's beak affects their hunting and feeding habits. Other displays explore how human fishing can disrupt complex ocean food webs. It also offers information on sustainable seafood harvesting solutions.

The family-friendly display will feature hands-on activities, videos and interpretive talks with the centre's "Oceaneers" - knowledgeable staff who can answer questions.

Regular admission to the centre applies. The exhibit can be viewed during regular hours at the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre, 9811 Seaport Pl., Sidney. For more information go to www.oceandiscovery.ca.
