Nature hike on coastal greens

Anyone interested in learning more about natural history and traditional food and medicine gathering in the region should attend People Plants and Places on Sunday.

This CRD Parks program lays out the plants local First Nations inhabitants would gather in the spring. A regional parks naturalist will be on hand to explain how native plants and herbs are collected, processed and stored. The naturalist will also identify plants used for textiles and medicines for coastal peoples.

The program is free. It runs 1 to 2: 30 p.m. and is recommended for people age 12 and older. Meet at the nature centre off Metchosin Road at Witty's Lagoon Regional Park. Parking is available but the park is also served by B.C. Transit routes 54 and 55.

Arrive 10 minutes ahead of the start of the program and leave pets at home. For more information go to www.crd.bc.ca/parks.
