Shawnigan Lake RCMP are warning drivers that if they don’t have to be on the Malahat to avoid the route.
There is heavy snow and the road is extremely slippery.
Eight people were sent to Victoria General Hospital with minor injuries after a crash around 11 a.m, B.C. Ambulance said.
The curving road was shut down just before noon as fire crews removed several cars from ditches. But the closing south of Shawnigan Lake Road wasn’t expected to last long, said a spokesman at Shawnigan Lake dispatch.
A number of minor accidents have been reported.
