The Times Colonist Christmas Fund began in 1956 as the Daily Colonist 500 Fund, named for the number of families it was designed to help. The mandate was to collect donations from readers and distribute them to needy Greater Victoria families.

Today, more than 2,500 individuals and families are helped through food vouchers from local grocers and shopping centre certificates to purchase gifts for children.

Thanks to the generosity of Times Colonist readers, we are able to give more than $200,000 a year to help those less fortunate.
