Victoria International Airport has won a prestigious award for customer service in North America among airports serving up to two million passengers a year.

It’s is the second time the Victoria airport has won the Airports Council International award for service quality. It also won in 2012.

Geoff Dickson, Victoria Airport Authority president and chief executive, said Monday the award is the “highest possible distinction in the industry.”

Criteria for evaluating customer satisfaction include an airport’s ambiance, efficiency, staff courtesy, cleanliness, value for money in food, beverage and retail outlets and security screening processes.

“Without the efforts of our airport community — security officers, airline partners, restaurant and retail staff, car rental companies, cleaners, volunteers and so many others — this award would not have been possible,” Dickson said.

The award will be presented at a ceremony in April.

Ottawa International Airport was the only other Canadian airport recognized in the awards, which evaluate more than 300 facilities worldwide. Ottawa placed fifth in the best airport in North America.

Victoria airport serves about 1.6 million passengers a year and offers 120 daily flights.
