A zipline is coming to Uptown shopping centre where spring-breakers can zoom along 90-metre lines suspended 12 metres above ground.

Two parallel ziplines will allow people to fly in tandem above Uptown and its plaza for thrill ride lasting about 30 seconds.

Parallel ziplines bring novelty to the adventure, says Jeremy Wilson, co-founder of AdrenaLINE Adventure Tours near Sooke. The company is partnering with Uptown to offer the ride.

Each person will be strapped into a harness to ride a zipline on the Blanshard level behind the elevator tower, to a spot on the west side of the plaza.

“We decided that this timing during spring break would be the perfect fit. Lots of people in the city are looking for activities to do,” said Kristy Lowes, Uptown marketing director.

The zipline will open between March 7 and March 23 from 1 to 7 p.m. The cost is $10 a person. Half will go to a charity, still to be determined.

Zipliners can be five years or older. The weight allowance is between 60 pounds and 275 pounds.

Standalone stairways will be constructed for zipliners to climb to reach the platforms where they will take off and land.

Shopping centre officials said about 22,000 people travel through Uptown’s town plaza on a daily basis. It is hoped the zipline will attract people who have not been there before.
