Port Alberni’s Colin Heatherington has been released from custody following a bail hearing in Vancouver on Thursday.

Heatherington, 43, a former Victoria resident, was arrested in Port Alberni a few days ago in connection with a U.S. investigation into what it describes as a $200-million securities fraud.

Heatherington was ordered released at a bail hearing under the Extradition Act in the Supreme Court of B.C. on Thursday morning, Heatherington’s lawyer David Martin said from Vancouver.

A publication ban was imposed by the court.

Heatherington’s next appearance is set for Nov. 1.

Martin said he has corresponded with the federal Department of Justice over the years indicating that if the U.S. ever sought Heatherington’s extradition, he would be fully co-operative.
