Who will be the city’s first Eco-Hero? It’s up to you.

Hemp & Co.’s contest designed to shine a light on entrepreneurs, volunteers and community leaders who make a positive mark on the environment has narrowed the search to six people. Now the public gets to vote for the winner.

The nominee with the most votes will win an “awardrobe” and be fully outfitted from head to toe in Hemp & Co. clothing.

The six finalists are: T.J. Watt from the Ancient Forest Alliance, Melody Reynolds of Elate Cosmetics, Sasha Prior from Nezza Naturals, Misty MacDuffee from the Raincoast Conservation Foundation, Frances Litman of Creatively United for the Planet, and Wes Koch of the Soap Exchange.

Jill Doucette, founder of Synergy Enterprises, a firm that works with companies to improve their green practices and worked with Hemp & Co. to develop the award, said this campaign will mean environmental leaders are profiled in the community.

Voting is open to Feb. 28 at hempandcompany.com

Victorian wins four wedding awards

Victoria’s Sharon Rai pulled in four awards at the Canadian Wedding Industry Awards held in Toronto.

Rai, who owns Sharon Rai Hair and Makeup Artistry, founded in 2008, won best overall hair stylist in both the B.C. region and Canada and best overall makeup artist in B.C. and Canada.

In 2014, Rai also won the Wedding Industry Experts Award as most popular hair and makeup service in Victoria, and the Vancouver Island Wedding Awards winner for best hair designer, where she was a finalist in the best makeup artist category.

“I love to help brides look and feel simply radiant. That is my passion, my lifelong passion,” said Rai. “I feel honoured when brides allow me to be a part of their special day.”

Viking lands in Caribbean

Viking Air has named David Caporali as its regional sales director for Latin America. The position covers Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. He will also be the primary point of contact for all Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft sales within the region.

Caporali had been aircraft general sales manager at Lider Aviacao, based in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

“Latin America shows great market potential for the Series 400 Twin Otter, where the aircraft’s robust design and low operating costs will excel in the extreme environments of the developing regions,” said Viking Air.
