On the Street: Viking Air heads to Africa

Saanich Peninsula-based Viking Air Ltd. is marketing its Twin Otter Series 400 in Sub-Saharan Africa with the appointment of Thor Aviation, of Mauritius, as its regional sales representative. Thor Aviation is a new start-up created specifically to sell Viking’s Twin Otters.

Thor Aviation’s sales territory includes South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia, Angola, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Madagascar, Comoros and Mauritius.

 

Barbara’s shop gets bigger

Barbara’s Boutique, 2392 Beacon Ave. in Sidney, has tripled its space. Merchandise Barbara’s Showroom has been moved into the boutique.

 

Nanaimo makes deal with union

The city of Nanaimo and members of Local 401 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees have ratified a new three-year contract. The agreement covers about 600 CUPE workers and includes wage increases of two per cent, effective Jan. 1, 2014, another two per cent, effective Jan.1, 2015, and one plus one per cent, effective Jan. 1, and July 1, 2016. It also includes improvements to benefits. Workers voted in favour of the agreement on Monday.

 

Victoria firm wins DND job

Defence Construction Canada, the Crown agency responsible for infrastructure for the Department of National Defence, has awarded a $200,000 contract to Story Construction, of Victoria, for siding and window replacements at CFB Esquimalt. Ralmax Contracting Ltd., also of Victoria, won a $383,000 job at CFB Esquimalt to deconstruct three buildings. Comox Consolidators has been awarded a $120,000 kitchen renovations program at 19 Wing, CFB Comox.
