On the Street: Victoria Golf Club, Victoria Yacht Club honoured

The Canadian Society of Club Managers has named both the Victoria Golf Club and Royal Victoria Yacht Club as clubs of the year.

The Canadian Society of Club Managers has named both the Victoria Golf Club and Royal Victoria Yacht Club as clubs of the year.

The golf club, which was founded in 1893 and is the oldest 18-hole golf course in Canada on its original location, took the award in the large-club category.

The yacht club, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year and is the oldest yacht club on the West Coast, won in the medium category.

Both clubs were judged on several criteria, including community involvement, environmental stewardship, leadership development and contribution to the CSCM.

“For more than a decade, our board and management team have been focused on bringing out the best of this 124-year-old club,” said Victoria Golf Club general manager Scott Kolb. “We have reinvested over $10 million to the golf course and club facilities to restore this great links club.”

The Club of the Year awards will be presented at the 2017 national conference in Gatineau, Que., in October.
