On the Street: Victoria Foundation adds board members

The new year has brought new faces to the Victoria Foundation as Kyman Chan and Patrick Kelly join the board as directors while Michael Cridge, Sang-Kiet Ly and Erin Shaw are new committee members.

The new year has brought new faces to the Victoria Foundation as Kyman Chan and Patrick Kelly join the board as directors while Michael Cridge, Sang-Kiet Ly and Erin Shaw are new committee members. Chan is a chartered accountant and partner in the Victoria firm Hayes Stewart Little & Co. Kelly is a member of the Leq:amel First Nation and operates a private consulting business. Cridge, a senior executive at BMO Harris Private Banking, and Ly, a partner at KPMG, join the foundation’s finance and audit committee. Shaw, a lawyer, joins the community engagement committee. Completing his term on the foundation’s board is Bob Worth. Past-chairwoman Deirdre Roberts continues, along with returning board members Andrew Jackson, Karen DeMeo, James Darke, Mia Maki, Mary Mouat, Ian Wong and Grace Wong-Sneddon. Chuck Burkett remains president of the foundation’s honorary governors.

Parksville students win provincial title

A team from PASS-Woodwinds Alternate School in Parksville has been named Titans of the Industry after winning Junior Achievement B.C.’s Online Business Challenge. They beat more than 50 other teams in managing a virtual company over a three-week period. The winning team called itself The Under Achievers. Members are Kyle Johnson, Ryan Quinney and Antonio Zanchetta. They were supported by business teacher Toby Nowak.

Town of Sidney website redesigned

The Town of Sidney has redesigned its website, the first major overhaul in 13 years. Changes targeted improved navigation of the site. The site address is www.sidney.ca.

Royal Roads University students launch ventures

Business students from Royal Roads University have launched a non-profit consulting firm aimed at providing affordable services to small businesses in B.C. Proceeds will be donated to Victoria-based Community Micro Lending. Launched as part of a business challenge at RRU, Varsity Consulting will pair clients with fourth-year business students ... Six RRU commerce students launched dailyfarmfresh.ca, a website designed for buyers who want current information on the availability of fresh farm products.
