Mark Dickinson, a downtown property and business owner, will chair Sidney’s new Downtown Revitalization Task Force. The other members are vice-chairman Brian Losie, who is chairman of Sidney’s community development committee, Erin Bremner, a downtown business owner and Sidney Business Improvement Area board member, Peter Dolezal, a Sidney resident, financial planner and investment adviser, Brad Edgett, Mary Winspear Centre executive director, Jane Hall, Sidney resident and member of the Sidney’s original vision committee, Paul Macris, real estate agent, Laura McLarty, downtown business owner, Donna Petrie, SBIA executive director, and Inken Roller, a downtown property owner. Mayor Larry Cross and Coun. Marilyn Loveless will represent Sidney on the task force.
Non-residential construction up
Investment in Greater Victoria non-residential building construction climbed to $101 million in the first quarter of this year — an increase of 17 per cent compared to $86 million in same quarter in 2013, said Statistics Canada.
New bid opportunities
The City of Victoria has posted a request for proposals for structural and building envelope remediation for the Victoria Police Department building on Caledonia Avenue. It closes May 6.
B.C. Ministry of International Trade is looking for trade and investment consulting services for China. The aim is to hire a consultant to play a lead role in expanding trade and investment in that market. The opportunity closes May 9.
Appointments
Vu Ndlovu has been appointed executive director of Community Micro Lending society in Victoria. Ndlovu will continue as the society’s director of entrepreneur support while serving as executive director. He replaces founding executive director Lisa Helps, a Victoria councillor. She remains with the organization as director of partnerships and fund development until the end of August when she’ll take a leave to campaign for election as mayor of Victoria.
Ho Kim, chief executive officer since 2010, has taken on additional responsibilities with CAMACC Systems, serving also as president of the privately held Victoria company. The high-tech firm specializes in high-definition video and storage.
