On the Street: Oak Bay school builders picked

Victoria’s Farmer Construction and design partner Hughes Condon Marler Architects, with offices in Victoria and Vancouver, have been chosen as the preferred proponent to build the new Oak Bay High School.

Victoria’s Farmer Construction and design partner Hughes Condon Marler Architects, with offices in Victoria and Vancouver, have been chosen as the preferred proponent to build the new Oak Bay High School. School District 61 is in negotiations with that team, hoping to complete a fixed-price agreement within the next few weeks. The school will replace the existing facility.

Construction is anticipated to create 100 or more full-time jobs during two years. Plans for the new school include a performing arts facility, a neighbourhood learning centre for teens’ programs and a daycare. For information, contact:

UVic requests tower bids

The University of Victoria has issued a request for proposals to design, build and install a new climbing tower and bouldering wall estimated to cost $400,000. Bids close July 11. The university is also calling for proposals to “renew and sharpen its brand position and create a high-level institutional integrated marketing and communications strategy.” That request closes July 26.

Walkway bids solicited

Esquimalt is tendering a paved walkway at Memorial Park. To run from August into October, work will include draining and upgrading. The opportunity closes July 8. Call 250-480-1230 for information.

Accountants honoured

Victoria chartered accountants Robert Chong and Robert N. Moysey have received Community Service Awards from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of B.C. Chong is a founding and continuing board member of Jesus Rocks Ventures Society, Children Arise, Eye to Eye Ministries Society, and is on the board of the Victoria Chinatown Care Society. He volunteers with Extreme Outreach, which stages a summer camp and Christmas dinner for children in need. Moysey has been active with the local Boys and Girls Club for more than 30 years, initially joining as treasurer. He is secretary of Boys and Girls Foundation and treasurer of Boys and Girls Club Services and belongs to the finance committee of both organizations. Moysey also served as president of the club in 1994-1995, and as president of the club’s then-sister society, Coastal Community Services.
