Sidney unveils EV chargers

Sidney will unveil its five Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations in a cermoney on Thursday and unveil the newest addition to its fleet, a fully electric Nissan Leaf. The mayor and council will plug in at the 90-amp charging station at the corner of Third Street and Bevan Avenue at 3 p.m. Four of the charging stations are for public use, including the Town Hall plug and others at Tulista and Iroquois parks. Another station is at the town’s public works yard and will be used to charge the Leaf. There is no cost to use the charging stations although fees may apply in the future. The charging stations are registered on the electric vehicle charging system locator website, Plugshare.com.

Wake the Lake

Aron Delucry has launched Wake The Lake, a water sport school on Comox Lake offering wake surfing, skating and skiing lessons for all ages and levels as well as tubing, banana boat rides and guided watersport boat charters. Delucry, a Comox Valley native, had been operating in Whistler since 2008. The centrepiece of his business is a wake boat called the Nautique. His staff are certified coaches and trained in first aid and CPR. Wake the Lake will operate from May to September. Boats leave from the ramp on the Cumberland side of the lake. Vecima names board member

Vecima Networks Inc., Victoria’s most valuable public company, has appointed Vincent Gallant as a new board member. Gallant is president of Blackline Financial Inc., an Edmonton-based business valuation firm. Most of his career has been spent working for medium and large public companies in senior finance roles, including Alberta Energy Company, North American Energy Partners Inc. and Titanium Corporation Inc.

Uptown adds Megahair

Eccotique Spa and Zennkai Salon, part of the hair styling and beauty empire built by the Lower Mainland’s Megahair Family, has opened at Uptown. Known for trendy styling and products at competitive prices, the company’s first Island locations are side-by-side at 101 - 3680 Uptown Boulevard. Zennkai offers a full list of services and 50 professional hair care product lines. Eccotique is an Aveda concept spa with several product lines.
