On the Street: Accounting office opens in Langford

Canwest Accounting has expanded with a new office in Langford. The 26-year-old accounting and bookkeeping firm, which is based at 107-1001 Cloverdale Ave.

 

Canwest Accounting has expanded with a new office in Langford. The 26-year-old accounting and bookkeeping firm, which is based at 107-1001 Cloverdale Ave. in Victoria, tested out the West Shore market late last year when it opened a small office in Colwood. Due to demand and growth the company has opened a larger office in Langford at 103-2787 Jacklin Rd.

The new office has five full-time employees

 

Hillside Centre wins gold award

A pair of Suburbia Studios clients have been awarded International Council of Shopping Centres Maple Leaf Awards.

Hillside Shopping Centre in Victoria and Bower Place in Red Deer won awards at the recent ICSC Canadian convention in Toronto. Hillside won gold in the Event or Sales Promotion category for centres 400,000 to 750,000 square feet for its “What’s On Your Bucket List?” summer sales campaign that attracted 40,000 entries for the chance to win the choice of a dream vacation or $10,000 cash.

The campaign is believed to have increased sales and traffic by as much as six per cent.

 

Fishhook opens at Mermaid Wharf

 

Fishhook restaurant is growing as chef Kunal Ghose has opened a second location with Fishhook at Mermaid Wharf. The new location, at 407 Swift St., is larger but will still feature the Indo-French flavour of the original at its three-year-old spot at Fort Commons. The new location will boast a waterside patio, an expanded menu featuring sustainable, locally sourced and farm-fresh ingredients, shared plates and weekend brunch. “How does one pass up one of the most beautiful patios and spaces in town?” said Ghose, one of the co-founders of Redfish Bluefish restaurant at Ship Point.

The new Fishhook spot will take reservations and large parties.

 

New chairman for construction group

 

Courtenay-Comox-based Alan Fletcher has been named chairman of the B.C. Construction Association. Fletcher is the founder of Alan Fletcher Construction Industries, and has been part of the sector for more than 30 years, specializing in commercial, light industrial and multi-family projects. Fletcher’s focus will be to work with the leadership of the four regional construction associations to ensure strong benefit to membership, while serving the industry through the launch of the association’s new strategic plan.

 

On the move

 

Cadboro Bay Optometry and Dr. Amanda Weinerman have moved offices. The new location is 2580 Penrhyn St. in Cadboro Bay Village. Dr. Nicole Sehn will be joining the practice from Calgary.
