The heliport at the Port of Nanaimo has received federal approval for two additional landing pads to accommodate air ambulances.

The site is managed by the Nanaimo Port Authority and leased to Vancouver-based Pacific Heliport Services.

Pacific Heliport is a subsidiary of Helijet International Inc., which already offers scheduled helicopter service to Vancouver and Victoria.

The Nanaimo Regional General Hospital’s own heliport is temporarily closed for renovation, meaning the port authority’s property can provide continued air ambulance service if needed.
