cnbc.com says the online resource surveyed hundreds of thousands of workers in 2011, asking them to rate their jobs based on factors that included workplace culture, their colleagues and their boss. Survey said … The top two reasons for unhappiness at work were limited growth opportunities and the lack of reward.
The impact of job unhappiness can be devastating. According to www.dailymail.co.uk, a study of 7,000 people done last year by a team at the Australian National University in Canberra found that people who are unemployed can actually feel better mentally than those who are in jobs of low ‘psychosocial quality.’ Here are the 10 most hated jobs, according to careerbliss.com.
10. Marketing Manager
10. Reason: The primary reason cited was lack of direction. The most optimistic respondent described the job as ‘tolerable’; another summed it up with: ‘It’s a job.’
9. CNC Machinist
9. Reason: Operators of the computer numerical control machines that run lathes or mills complained that because this job requires such specialization, there is no room for advancement, thus leading to a high degree of dissatisfaction.
8. Technical Support Analyst
8. Reason: Being called on to work in a variety of environments, having to travel at a moment’s notice, sometimes on holidays or weekends. Said one respondent: ‘You can do better, really.’
7. Law Clerk
7. Reason: Long, grueling hours, and being subject to the whim of demanding, sometimes mercurial A-types.
6. Electronics Technician
6. Reason: The litany of complaints included ‘lack of control, work schedule, lack of accomplishment, no real opportunity for growth and peers with zero motivation to work hard.’
5. Technical Specialist
5. Reason: Being treated with disrespect despite skills, lack of communication from upper management and input not being taken seriously were the top complaints.
4. Senior Web Developer
4. Reason: Senior web developers expressed frustration that their employers couldn’t articulate their concerns or understand the technology.
3. Product Manager
3. Reason: A very high level of job dissatisfaction due to restricted growth, boring work and clerical demands of the job.
2. Director of Sales and Marketing
2. Reason: Lack of direction from upper management and an absence of room for growth.
1. Director of Information Technology
1. Reason: Despite earning a good salary, IT directors reported the highest level of dissatisfaction with their jobs. ‘Nepotism, cronyism, disrespect for workers,’ summarized one respondent.
