Lindholm family buys Sidney-area marina

A Victoria family firm has bought Marina Park Marina in Tsehum Harbour near Sidney and is embarking on dock improvements immediately.

The deal for the marina includes 1.5 acres of upland property and a three-acre water lease, Mark Lindholm, president of Lindholm Land and Investment Corp., said Friday.

About $500,000 will be spent on upgrading existing wooden docks, bringing in new fingers with new piles, and a new electrical system and sewage pumps, he said.

Work is expected to be finished by mid-April.

This purchase means the Lindholm family now owns three marinas in the capital region. It already owns Westbay Marine Village and Sailor’s Cove Marina at West Bay in Esquimalt.

At present, the Sidney marina can accommodate 75 boats. Improvements will create fewer spaces, for about 60 vessels, but will mean larger boats can moor there, Lindholm said.

The marina now has some boats in the 45- to 50-foot range. The goal is to have room for larger 60-foot boats, “which is where boating is going,” Lindholm said.

In the longer term, a 34-unit residential project on the upland site is being considered, he said. This would be rental housing that would help meet the need for this kind of accommodation in the area.

Zoning is in place for such a development, Lindholm said. A marina expansion is also being considered, also in the long term.
