Canadian manufacturers feeling optimistic: survey

OTTAWA — A quarterly survey of leaders in the Canadian manufacturing sector shows more are optimistic about the state of the economy than was the case few month earlier.

PwC Canada’s fourth-quarter survey of manufacturing executives showed 57% were positive about the Canadian economy’s prospects for the coming 12 months, up 25 points from the previous quarter’s survey.

Also, 90% of those polled expected revenue growth in the coming year, with 10% anticipating double-digit-percentage gains.

“Industrial manufacturing CEOs are now focusing on the upside rather than the downside,” said PwC analyst Calum Semple. “Across the board, we’re seeing Canadian manufacturers with positive projections associated with company growth, international sales and spending trends.”

Survey participants were expecting two-thirds of their sales over the next year to come from outside of Canada.

The data was based on surveys with 30 senior officials with large Canadian manufacturers. No margin of error was provided.
