A new operations building for the Canadian Coast Guard is planned at Bam-field on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. Construction costs for the two-storey building are estimated between $2 million and $2.5 million, according to federal government bid documents. The Coast Guard station is only accessible by water. The 3,990-square-foot, timber-frame building will have offices for search and rescue crews, change rooms, gear storage, exercise facilities, a maintenance workshop, galley and lounge. A site visit for contractors is set for Dec. 11.
