Sooke RCMP are investigating whether a car fire Wednesday morning was a case of arson.

Firefighters and police rushed to a residence in the 600 block of Throup Road just before 8 a.m. after someone reported a car fully engulfed in flames, said Const. Matt Rowatt.

The fire happened near École Poirier Elementary but no students were injured. The car wasn’t running at the time, leading police to believe the fire could have been deliberately set, Rowatt said.

Sooke RCMP ask anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to call them at 250-642-5241.
