Victoria’s Campbell Construction has won a $58,627,667.23 contract to build the University of Victoria’s Centre for Athletics, Recreation and Special Abilities and adjacent parkade.

UVic said site preparation will begin as early as Feb. 25 at the intersection of Gabriola Road and McKenzie Avenue. In preparation for construction, parking lot 3, off Gabriola Road, will be permanently closed. The Alumni Chip Trail through the construction zone will also be closed during the project to ensure public safety, and access to playing fields 1, 2 and 3 will change.

The new facility will include the UVic Vikes and sports and recreation programs as well as new offices, labs and a machine shop for the CanAssist program for special needs.
