Cook Street Liquor has come up with a thirst-quenching twist on mail order.

The Victoria business has launched Beer Mail, which sends local and other craft brews throughout B.C. for the cost of the beer and a $35 shipping charge via Canada Post.

Recipients must order boxes of a dozen 650-millilitre bottles containing six varieties. “We’ve done a theme with each box,” said Cook Street Liquor owner Glenn Barlow.

Barlow’s business specializes in limited-quantity and hard-to-source beers.

Barlow said some regular customers live in Vancouver and pop into the store when they come to Victoria for work.

That gave him the idea for Beer Mail.

A new selection is put together every two weeks.

The latest Halloween-themed selection includes Zombie Repellent Belgian Red from Saanich-based Category 12 Brewery and Parallel 49’s Lost Souls Chocolate Pumpkin Porter from Vancouver. Others beers are from Yukon, Quebec and Belgium.

The price varies with each selection. The latest group of beers cost $120, the retail price in the store. Shipping is always $35.

Boxes have been sent to destinations such as Campbell River, Fort St. John and the Okanagan, Barlow said.

It’s not a club. Each order must be placed individually.
