Victoria's Canadian Pacific Lawn Bowling club has signed a long-term lease with the city that will allow it to remain at its Belleville Street site another 15 years.
The club signed the lease this week, after more than a year of negotiations.
"It's been a long, uphill battle but now we're smooth sailing on the way down," club president Kris Constable said yesterday.
The lawn bowling club at 720 Belleville St. has tripled its membership over the past two years, with more than 100 members. Members pay $150 a year to bowl on the finely manicured green. The club is looking for more members and is giving free lessons on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 1 p.m. The only requirement is wearing flat shoes.
The club has also started a croquet program this year.
Members' ages range from 20-something to 90-something, Constable said.
