Database offers better view of building

The City of Nanaimo is introducing a new database to make it easier for people seeking information on new and ongoing construction developments.

City spokeswoman Sheila Herrera said the database will contain information on development projects all around the city, from the application and permit phases through to completion.

Information will be available on a website that has yet to be launched. For now, the database can be accessed on a link on the city's website at www.nanaimo.ca.

Users can create an account on the new website in which they can select projects that they want to monitor and an email will be sent to them if there is any change in status of each file.

"Up until now, people looking for this information usually had to call city hall or end up at our front desk," Herrera said.

"Now it will be a lot easier to access the data. I believe we lead other jurisdictions with this initiative."

The database was being launched at the 3rd Annual CHBA Home and Renovation Show at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre Saturday.
