Juror comment: If they ever put it together and get really serious about what theyre doing, things would happen for them.
Bloody Wilma which is named after Andersons pet rabbit has almost no presence on the Internet, nor does it have a recording in which to sell. Despite the bands inability to properly market itself, the much-adored duo has scored some key gigs around town, having opened for everyone from Brian Jonestown Massacre to Girl Talk over the years.
We dont have any recorded music so its pretty nice when we get shows, singer-bassist Rob Anderson said. Its the era of media and, ironically, we have none.
Up until two years ago, Bloody Wilma consisted primarily of Anderson and a rotating cast of drummers. He has since solidified the line-up with former Fine Options drummer Conor Matthews. Though Matthews has a full plate four children; another band, Espionage; and a full-time job Bloody Wilma works in spite of its hurdles, Anderson said.
Anderson, who works at the Royal BC Museum, is busy, too. But having grown up in a close-knit circle of friends that includes Darren Glover of Flash Lightnin and Thomas Shields and Matt Skillings of Run Chico Run, gigs and jam sessions always seem to materialize, Anderson said.
Thats what I love about Victoria. The support here is phenomenal.
