Was man beaten in Fairfield? Police say they aren't sure

Police are puzzled as to how a 20-year-old man suffered head injuries in a quiet Fairfield neighbourhood on Sunday. No witnesses have come forward.

Sgt. Grant Hamilton of Victoria police say they responded to a call Sunday evening just before 9. Residents said a young man who was bleeding from his ears was found crawling up to a porch outside a multi-family house at 80 Moss St.

Police and paramedics arrived to find the victim conscious but dazed.

"He had injuries to his face and head," Hamilton said. The man was unable to answer questions and quickly collapsed.

With no witnesses and no word from the victim, it's unclear what happened -- or even where.

It appears the man has a friend at the address where he was found. However, that friend was away at the time.

"We don't know what happened," Hamilton said. "It appears he was assaulted but we are still trying to determine that, as we have not been able to interview the victim."

The injured man is still in critical condition in hospital, where family members have watched over him. He had recently moved from Saanich to Fairfield.

Throne Speech offers tax breaks, more preschool options and cheaper housing

Other than the measures to help families, the speech was heavy with rhetoric designed to promote the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. “The Olympics platform is a launching pad to lift British Columbia and Canada to new heights and new prosperity,” the speech read.
