B.C. Transit union ratifies new deal with 93 per cent in favour

Canadian Auto Workers Local 333 members voted 93 per cent in favour of deal that officially ends their labour dispute in Greater Victoria

Labour strife has led to the cancellation of dozens of bus trips each day.

B.C. Transit’s strike officially ended Tuesday after Canadian Auto Workers Local 333 members voted 93 per cent in favour of ratifying a new collective agreement for 650 bus drivers, mechanics, maintenance and other workers.
CAW Local 333 president Ben Williams said in a statement that members were happy to end the limited job action that saw the union launch an overtime ban on Oct. 22 and refuse to wear uniforms during the dispute.
The union had been without a contract since March 31, and the new deal — tentatively agreed to last week — gives employees a retroactive two per cent raise for last year and another two per cent in April this year.
