Shock-rock legend Alice Cooper, who returns to Vancouver Island this fall, has been touring consistently since 1964. Save for a four-year break between tours in support of 1991’s Hey Stoopid and 1994’s The Last Temptation, Cooper owns the crown as rock music’s biggest road warrior.

Despite his ongoing appearances in cities across Canada, the man behind I’m Eighteen, School’s Out and No More Mr. Nice Guy has performed only once on Vancouver Island — and according to reports, his Dec. 27, 1987 debut at Victoria’s Memorial Arena didn’t go down well with the audience.

Bygones are bygones. Cooper, 65, is heading back to Vancouver Island later this year for a pair of concerts (Nov. 17 and 18) at the Port Theatre in Nanaimo. His dates on the Island are the only Western Canadian stops on his upcoming tour.

Longtime fans will be happy to hear that these are not only “An evening with…” events — which is to say, there’s no opening act — they will be expectedly over the top. Matt Laundrie of High Tide Entertainment, which is producing the concerts, said a full slate of pyrotechnics will be on tap for both concerts.

“It’s an arena-sized show in a small theatre,” he said. “It will be the biggest show, production-wise, ever in the Port Theatre.”

Tickets are being rolled out on three separate occasions: Aug. 9, for Alice Cooper fan club members; Aug. 12, for Port Theatre members; and Aug. 14, for the public.

Tickets ($115.50-$135.50, plus service charges) are available in person at the Port Theatre, by phone at 250-754-8550 or online at porttheatre.com. The Port Theatre is at 125 Front St. in Nanaimo.
