Victoria Mayor Dean Fortin, right, takes federal Transport Minister John Baird on a tour yesterday of the Johnson Street Bridge, which will be replaced as early as fall 2011.
Three replacement models were considered for the Blue Bridge on Johnson Street.
Replacing the 85-year-old Johnson Street bridge is estimated to cost $63 million providing a new span that would last 100 years. Refurbishing the existing bridge is estimated at between $25-million and $30-million add another 40 years life to the bridge.
A letter-writer says the Johnson Street Bridge, which opened in January 1924, should be preserved as a reminder of the past.
