Victoria police say a 24-year-old driver seriously hurt in a Saturday night crash has made gains in hospital.
"The man's condition has improved slightly," Victoria police Const. Mike Russell said Monday.
"He is listed in stable condition right now."
The driver was initially listed in critical condition, with severe head injuries.
His passenger, a 20-year-old woman, was not seriously hurt.
Russell said officers from the traffic section and crash-scene analysts are looking into the crash, which saw the driver's small car strike several parked vehicles about midnight Saturday along the 900 block of Old Esquimalt Road.
A witness was able to administer first-aid to the man before emergency personnel arrived.
Paramedics and Esquimalt firefighters used vehicle extraction equipment to pull the man from the 1992 Geo Storm, which was badly damaged.
"The officers are going to continue to investigate and focus the investigation on contributing factors like speed and alcohol," Russell said.
