2 mobile homes destroyed, 15 people evacuated in Surrey explosion and fire

Mike Hager / Vancouver Sun
December 29, 2012

Fifteen people were evacuated from their mobile homes in the Surrey neighbourhood of northeast Whalley after a suspicious fire ripped through a trailer park just before 8 p.m. Friday.

Two homes were destroyed by a loud explosion and ensuing fire and two others were damaged at the trailer park located at 12662 112A Ave., according to an RCMP news release.

No one was reported injured and the 15 people are finding temporary housing with the help of Emergency Social Services and the Surrey Fire Department, according to an email from Staff Sgt. Warren Tyson.

The bomb squad was not on scene, but the fire is deemed suspicious, Tyson added. There are no suspects at this point.

Police investigators and firefighters remain on the scene trying to find out what caused the fire.
